the pot and the kettle

We’ve all heard of the phrase, right? I hope so.

So, in my dating history are 2 young men who are black. Chris and Roddy. I am mocked for it frequently, not because they are black, but because they are 2 young men who……just weren’t right for me. Also, they were (still are? not sure) best friends. More mocking.

Because I’m a youth leader, my dating history is frequently brought up as a “what not to do” example to my kids.

I’m not exactly sure of the context, but another leader (who was actually around for that part of my teen life) and I had just been talking about them and shortly after we changed the subject. I then said something that required that the pot/kettle phrase be said and then the other leader chuckled and said:

“It’s like the Chris calling the Roddy black.”

I of course was driven into fits of laughter, because what else can you do?

I found this woman’s blog thanks to lemons. She said this, and it was all I could do not to pack my bags, take a vacation to her home, and kiss her right on her lips. In the 2nd paragraph of her “about me” it says:

“I enjoy politics but have a strong dislike of the liberal agenda. Notice I said liberal agenda, not liberals personally;) I think being a liberal is like having a mental illness — something that cannot be helped without proper medication, but in the case of liberals, something that cannot be helped without proper education.”

 Perhaps we could allow gay marriage just for me and her, you think?

Today, Jimmy Fallon was on the view. He wrote a comedy/musical album and played his song “Carwash for Peace” on the show. It’s hillarious! I say Jimmy should replace Rosie, he’s a little more feminine anyway…..

can’t say i’m sad to see her go (if she goes)

 The View. Have you heard? Elisabeth is a coward now because she didn’t defend Rosie for her insinuation that we Americans, or more ridiculously, our troops, are terrorists.

Here is what Rosie said, and then what political pundit Bill O’Reilly said in response:

I’m not sure what Rosie was getting at, but it doesn’t sound good. I won’t put words in her mouth though. She’s done enough of that for everyone.

Here is the big “feud” that for all intents and purposes is responsible for evicting Rosie so much sooner than originally anticipated:

And so now apparently Rosie’s bowing out early. She’s supposed to be back today, but we’ll see. I hope she never shows up again, but I don’t think we’re all that lucky.

Update: Rosie really is gone for good. Yay! Maybe I should replace her……

random randomness

* I have an interview on Friday for a job that I’m hoping I’ll be a shoe-in for. Not nervous, but excited to feel useful again. Not to say that being unemployed hasn’t been exciting, but you know.

* I’m pretty sure that I’m actually going to school in the fall. For real. Now I just have to enroll.

*I’m also pretty sure that should someone confront you if you do something that has offended them, then you probably have no right to be mad, as you are the one who is in the wrong.

*I love my new hair. Blonde makes me happy. Also, since my new hairdresser rocks and gave me a conditioning treatment, it’s healthier than it’s ever been. I am convinced.

*I actually like my tattoo. No, really. I know you have a hard time believing it, but its true. Try that one on for size.

*The summer makes me smile. I think I will go to the beach very soon. Maybe even Saturday if nothing is going on.

well, at least we had a date

I went and saw Pirates last night.

I am unimpressed.

I’m not sure if our terrible seats had anything to do with it, but it was very difficult to follow along with and the ending sucked. No, S.U.C.K.E.D. (our seats didn’t have anything to do with that, it was just the writers) Put it into perspective for you? I won’t ruin it for you, but I will say that I just didn’t enjoy it at all. Cpt. Jack wasn’t all that entertaining and they had more of that Jamaican lady in there who is ridiculously hard to understand. They needed subtitles for her in my opinion.

I know you’ll all go see it anyway, as what I have to say has no bearing on any of your decision-making. That’s why I wrote this. But please do me this one favor; don’t go there with any expectations, at least that way, you will walk in there neutral and won’t feel as badly as I did when you walk out.

You guys, no one told me that tattoos H.U.R.T like that. What the heck?! Where are the people to help you out when you need them?

Ok, but for real though, I do not understand how people get these gargantuan tattoos on themselves. I just got two little Lilies on my foot and I was the biggest baby about it. I’m sure B (the tattoo artist) walked away from doing mine like he wanted to quit the business. I didn’t cry, but that’s all I didn’t do. Well, besides kicking or hitting him.

Did you know that if you take a razor blade, turn it sideways and run it down your skin, that you’ve pretty much had the same sensation as a tattoo? Did ya?! Well, if you have, and you can handle that, (as a side note, you probably need help if you have, that’s called cutting) then go get one because at least there’s something pretty after the pain! Sheesh.

Also, if you want to see what it looks like, go visit lemons because as I predicted, I cannot find the cable thingy which means no pictures for you! Mine is on the left foot though, just so you know.

No pictures also means that for the time being, you won’t get to see the fabulousness that is my beautiful blonde hair! (Except of course for lemons and DDTM who both saw me yesterday) I. LOVE. IT. The girl who did my hair is just adorable and she’s a couple of months younger than me! She was very thorough with the task at hand and I ended up paying less than I do with my former hairdresser! For example, with former hairdresser I would get the following:

Wash
Cut
Partial Highlight
Blow-dry/Style
Lip wax (because my Italian-ness only comes out in the hair on my upper-lip)

That would all add up to about $170, give or take a few bucks.
Yesterday I got:

Color Treated my dark roots (so I wouldn’t have any after the highlight)
Full Highlight
Coloring of the hair that wasn’t in the foils
Conditioning Treatment
Cut
Blow-dry/Style
Good Shampoo (to take home)
Good Conditioner (to take home)
Take-home conditioning treatment
Eyebrows Waxed
Lip Waxed
Eyebrows color-treated (so there wasn’t so much of a contrast between them and my hair)

I paid…..$165. At a high-end salon. Unbelievable. Had I known this, I would have switched years ago! To boot, I got everything I asked for and am not the least bit unsatisfied. Yay! The great part is that she said I won’t need to do all of the aformentioned stuff to myself every time, so It’ll be even cheaper the next time! I paid that every time with my former lady.

The switch is official! I just hope she doesn’t read this blog….

to ink, or not to ink, that is the question

We’re actually going through with it. This isn’t just some idea that popped up in conversation and then faded away, never to be heard from again. This is real.

Lemons and I are going to go get inked. For serious. No joke. Today.

It’s just the day for changes all around for me. I’ll be blonde and inked by the end of the day. I’m not going to tell you what I’m getting, because really, I don’t want to hear any stupid remarks about how I shouldn’t get that, I should get this and blah, blah, blah. You’ll just see it and have to deal with it. So there.

For my hair, I was thinking Avril Lavigne blonde.

I love it!!!! And I think I could pull it off, so we’ll see how it goes!

the end of an era

Well, really two I suppose.

I made the hair appointment for tomorrow and not with my regular hairdresser. With the new one. I’m sad, but then again, I know that I’m never going to get what I want with Bonnie, so I’m better off switching to someone else. I hope I’m right!

I’m going back to my roots. The blonde ones, that is. I’m really excited because I’m going blonde, blonde. Like the kind of blonde that I haven’t been since I was, like 7 or so. Hopefully it turns out how I want it to and I’m not disappointed Bonnie-style. We’ll see.

I’ll (maybe) post pictures if I can find that little cable thingy that connects the camera to the computer. I’m making no promises!
