Can Someone Make Some Noise Please?

In preparation for my marriage I factored in how homesick I would probably get and tried as best as I could to prepare for such a situation.

What I did not consider (stupidly I might add) is how quiet life would be without 6 other people around. Oh, and a dog too. My house was a living, breathing, organism. There was a constant flow of people and noise and the only time it stopped was when everyone was sleeping. It’s nothing short of culture shock to now live with only one other person. And no dog.

L is so…..laid back. He doesn’t yell, he doesn’t bark, he doesn’t call my name 50 times just so he can get my attention. He pretty much does things for himself and that leaves me to care about….me. When did that happen? Where are all the screaming teenagers when you need them? I’m sure than many of you are screaming at your computer screens in some fashion like “You MORON, why don’t you just ENJOY the silence?!?!?!” Especially you mothers who long for a silent, relaxing afternoon. I just can’t get into it.

At least yesterday wasn’t so bad. Yesterday I was occupied. I unpacked everything and put it away, cleaned the apartment from top to bottom and made dinner. Of course I didn’t leave anything for myself today, which was brilliant because now I don’t know what to do.

Maybe I should just learn to appreciate this silence, because eventually my life will be loud with children and dogs and I will wonder why I was such an idiot and couldn’t enjoy the peace and quiet while I had it.

Either way, I’m still bored.

The quiet is a little nerve racking. It is like that at night, at my house when T goes to work and I get convinved the boogie man is lurking in the darkness, but I digress. You’ll get used to it in a couple of months!

P.S. You need to learn to sleep in! I can’t believe you are already awake today.

Awwwwwww, hon! I remember those days. I was soooo bored the first year I was married. Do you work??? I didn’t have a full-time job when I got married, and I slowly took to sleeping in, watching daytime TV all day long, eating icecream straight out of the container for lunch, and not getting out of my jammies till 4pm when I’d suddenly realize Brand-New-Hubby would be home soon. I got so depressed. Then I got a job. And it got better. I have a squirmly toddler you could watch if you get reeeeeeeally bored. ;-)

I also was INCREDIBLY bored the first 6 weeks of my marriage before I had a job when Husband went to work and I was in the apartment alone all day. I slept in, bonded with daytime tv and that apartment was so darn clean you could have performed surgery in the bathroom.
Again, let me offer some of our noise, since we have pleeeeeenty to go around. Or you could buy an ipod. I’d buy the ipod.

lol, lots of great suggestions! I actually do have a full-time job that I am NOT looking forward to going back to. I’m told that once I actually get back to work, I’ll long for these days. I’m sure I will as I HATE my job. Hate is putting it mildly. I would take 12 screaming toddlers any day over the job I have, and that’s saying something.
